How to Make and Preserve Apple Juice or Cider – Put clean, sound apples through a cider mill and press out the juice. Strain the juice through a thick cloth sack. Put into fruit jars and sterilize for fifteen minutes, as described under grape juice. The common muscadine and fox grapes that grow wild in such abundance throughout the South make excellent unfermented juice. Blackberries, cherries, plums and currant juice may also be canned in this way. Unfermented fruit juice when opened may be used for making jelly.
